Road To Rainbow Wins Stawell Pacing Cup

Harness racing veteran Road To Rainbow has hit a career high by winning the Group Three Toyworld Stawell Pacing Cup.

Half of the 12-strong field pulled away from the tape poorly giving Road To Rainbow an opportunity to use his standing-start skills to settle nicely behind race leader The Wild Storm.

Positioned perfectly for the Stawell circuit, the Glenn Douglas-trained Road To Rainbow continued at a nice pace while other contenders such as Dontfencemein and reigning champion Keayang Hanover were forced to work hard to attain a better position.

With Tony Peacock’s The Wild Storm still in the lead, Daryl Douglas was forced to push Road To Rainbow in the final 100m to overtake the leader while holding off Sir Lance out wide on the track.

Road To Rainbow managed to win by half a neck and the first eleven runners were separated by less than ten metres on the line.

The field recorded a lead-time of 79.6 seconds and a first half of the last mile in 62.5, while the final quarters of the race were completed in 29.4 and 28.9 seconds.

The other highlights of the day included veteran mare Hanginthere’s victory in the Bayunga Lodge Stawell Trotters Cup and promising mare Mendelico’s 13 metre victory in the Harneys Freight Pace.
