While feature trotting races may be hard to come by in these opening days of September, there is still plenty of lower stakes action to be had. There are plenty of trot events being held right through the weekend, one of which is the Ross North Homes Trotters Discretionary SS Trot at Gloucester Park. Open to T0 or better competitors, the discretionary handicap will be run over a distance of 2,503 metres. The top finishers will be taking home a share in the $5,700 purse.
With a decent field of handy types, there are a few contenders that could make this race very interesting indeed. Face Lift, starting in barrier number seven, had one of the more impressive season’s last year with five first place finishes in 18 starts. His most recent outing proved successful as the chestnut gelding took second place in the SS Trot at the end of August. Jack The Capricorn is another top trotter with four wins in 17 starts in Australia last season. The bay gelding’s last win at Gloucester came in May when he took first place in the $16,000 Discretionary SS Trot.
Earl of Stanton, Striding Edge, and Keepyaguardup are all also horses to watch with the first of the three sitting in the best starting position.
