Saturday night Will Trapper claimed victory in the $30 000 Group 2 Majestic Son Cranbourne Trotters Cup.

Eight-year-old gelding Will Trapper ($6.40) defeated Acacia Ridge ($8.20) by 3.4m with Kyvalley Mac ($17.30) coming in 8.5m from the winner in third.

Odds-on favourite starting the race at $3.10 Ronerail ran a very dismal seventh attracting a vet’s examination after the race.

Another disappointing run was the Chris Lang-trained Sundowns Gift, the returning Inter Dominion champion finishing eighth.

Will Trapper, by Keystone Salute out of Downsouth Soon, clocked a sharp 3:18.5 (mile rate 2:05:0) over the 2555m event, proving he is in the right form for the upcoming Aldebaran Park Stud Bill Collins Trotters Sprints, for which he is aiming at back-to-back victory.

Sky Channel Dullard Cup winner Viva La Fever will return to the racetrack on November 28 in the Group Two Majestic Son Cranbourne Trotters Cup.

After recovering from a fractured near-side pastern that required the insertion of screws into the leg, the nine year old is returning to harness racing for the first time in twelve months.

If Viva La Fever is successful in his return race, he will join a long list of champions which includes Sammy Do Good, A Touch of Flair and dual Victorian Trotter of the Year Sundons Gift.

With a large list of contenders eager to take on the Trotters Cup, Viva La Fever is likely to be up against Inter Dominion champion Sundons Gift as well as Ronerail, In Pursuit and La Mosca.

Run on the same day as the 45th Decron Horse Care Cranbourne Pacing Cup, the event is expected to attract a lot of attention particularly with Cranbourne local Veranjee eager to take home the Pacing Cup.

With 14 career starts at the home track which includes six wins and six seconds, the Narre Warren-trained six year old is definitely a serious contender for the November 28 race.

After having won at Tabcorp Park, Melton in October Veranjee suffered a blow with unsuccessful runs in both the Maryborough Cup and Rothacker Medal Night Pace on Saturday night.

With a total of 16 wins and $120,000 in prize money to his career, Veranjee is hoping to add another win to his name and join Gammlite, Golden Reign (twice) and Tailamade Lombo as possessing one of the most coveted Country Cups of the season.

The Cranbourne Pacing Cup is the sixth leg of the Choice Hotels Country Cup Carnival and Veranjee’s rivals include Karlsruhe, Mister Grizzly and Victorian Derby winner Tanabi Bromac.
